The Bantelman Agency's history can be traced to April 1966 when Al Bantelman founded Al Bantelman Insurance as a captive agent for Nationwide Insurance in Buffalo, NY. In 1969, Al moved his business to Olean, NY. In 1978 he built a small office on the front of a 3 unit dwelling at the current location, 1002 West Sate Street, Olean, NY 14760. In 1993 his son, Joe, started a separate scratch agency, Joe Bantelman Insurance. In 1994, an attached garage on the building was converted to an office where Joe stayed until 1995. In 1995 Joe moved to 2626 West State Street where his business flourished. In February 1997, a downstairs apartment was converted to offices and the two agencies merged to form Bantelman Insurance until March 31, 1999. On April 1, 1999 Bantelman, Bantelman, & Associates, Inc. d/b/a the Bantelman Agency was formed as an Independent Insurance Agency featuring Erie Insurance Group, Progressive and other smaller regional insurance carriers, with Joe Bantelman as the President. In 2001, New York Central Mutual Insurance Company was added.

The Bantelman Agency has grown to be one of the larger Independent Insurance Agencies in the Olean Area offering a full line of personal insurance products including auto, home and life insurance. In addition, the Bantelman Agency also offers a full line of Commercial Insurance including Commercial Property, Commercial General Liability, Worker’s Compensation, Personal & Statutory Disability and Bonding for various contracting risks. With our excess lines carriers and brokers, whom we have had a relationship for many years, we offer coverage for those “hard to place” risks.
